Can you Propagate Moringa from Cuttings?

Moringa trees grow easily from cuttings than from seeds as it takes less time to harvest drumsticks. To propagate drumsticks tree from cuttings, take a stem of size 1 feet tall. Now make a hole in the soil about 15-20 cms depth. Place the cutting in this hole and fill it with a mixture sandy soil and organic compost such as cow dung to protect the cuttings from pests. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Water the plant thoroughly on regular basis. Very soon the cuttings will start sprouting.

The most effective being eating it raw, freshly cut from the tree but then, you’ll have to go with younger leaves which are more digestible to the body when consumed raw than older leaves as a result the presence of anti-nutrient in them. However, most people may find the taste of raw moringa to be very inconvenient and as such, there are several other healthy ways to prepare and consume moringa Oleifera leaves and still gain most of its benefits.

1. Moringa tea

Moringa nutritious tea can be prepared easily at home. Just follow these simple steps.

  1. You just need to pluck the matured leaves from its branches. No special tool is needed to complete this first step.
  2. The greenest leaves are to be collected and not the yellow ones.
  3. Then is the step of sorting the best fresh leaves from the impurities.
  4. Drying them on air is the next step. Sun drying is not encouraged as it reduces the nutritive powers present within them.
  5. The dried moringa tea leaves are then crushed.
  6. The next steps are pan drying, storing and brewing.

 

2. Boil water, turn off the heat source, place your fresh moringa leaf in the hot water for about a minute, pour out the water using a sieve. Squeeze the remaining water in the leaf into a cup and drink also, you can consume the leaf like that or use it to prepare other food as desired.
